I woke to war today
Between the light and shade
The light must turn its arc
And then yield to the dark
As I stand my shadow grows
I can run but I still know
That the distance far and away
Surely out-measures all of my strength
Why must a man be confined to the ground?
Lift up my wings and the sky I have found
As I fly my shadow falls
Toward the light I lift my call
I will reclaim all the light from the air
Then will the battle be man's I swear
Oh I swear
Higher and higher, I did ascend
Father to father, I to contend
Fire erupted close to the sun
My wings were failing
My flight was done
As I vault toward the sea
Certain thought comes over me
How could I think that I'd rob the light
Should just have been glad to know flight
